Look Ma No Hands!

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

We’ve all said something similar to that one time in our life, but I think we’ve all done it with our finances too.  Most of America has this hands off attitude regarding their finances and I’m blaming our families.  We don’t learn how to manage money in school, if we did, people with financial degrees would be rich.  Most are not.  So I believe it falls on the families shoulders to teach the next generation.  My parents didn’t teach me.  Their parents didn’t teach them.  They all learned by trial and error, myself included.  I will teach my children.  I will teach my children even now, when they aren’t even old enough for preschool.  I will teach them that debt, though sometimes necessary, is a bad thing.  I will teach them to pay God His 10% gross tithe and 10% into a compounded intrest savings vehical.  I will teach them the difference between a necessity and everything else.  I will teach them the value of money without teaching them the love of money.  I will teach them that true wealth does not come from money and that being rich does not make them bad people.  I will teach them to say “Look Ma No Hands!” and let their hearts lead them, but only in faith, hope, and love.
